Welcome to PUPPET RUNNER, a site dedicated to my rather unusual hobby of running races while carrying and performing puppets. Puppets have the amazing ability to make people smile — even runners dealing with the challenges of running many miles. The hope is that this rather silly thing can grow one day into a charitable initiative that will bring puppets to people who need more joy in their lives.
HOW I BECAME PUPPET RUNNER
On November 2, 2019, I made the fateful decision to run the Disney Wine & Dine 10K in costume as Chef Gusteau from Ratatouille. As an actor and long-time lover of puppets, the perfect detail to complete the look was a beautiful Remy puppet. What happened during the race was amazing - running with Remy was like being in the entourage of a rock star. People were amused and encouraged by Remy waving at them and cheering them on. Dozens of selfies were taken, new friends were made, and joy was spread. I was so moved by the experience that I ran the half marathon the next day with Remy perched on my arm. It was magical. I am now looking at taking Remy and some new friends to more races to bring smiles to a world that needs them.
